I only made it up to about halfway through the first chapter when I had to stop. The story starts with some interesting changes right off the bat, and several main characters meet much earlier and in vastly different circumstances than canon, promising quite a few ripple effects down the line. Unfortunately, there are just far too many technical and stylistic issues in the text for me to feel like it's worth the effort to keep going until those effects are revealed. The author claims to be using a proofreader, yet the whole thing reads like a very rough first draft. Every other line is a run-on or incomplete sentence. Many lines are missing words or phrases, leaving unfinished thoughts, and everyone speaks with the same wooden, awkward dialogue. It's impossible to tell if anyone is acting in character because no one speaks with any character. There's barely even any variation in punctuation. It's really a shame, because this fic has been in progress for more than four years and has nearly 40 chapters. I'm sure other readers enjoy it plenty, but personally I have no desire to spend my reading time feeling like I'm being put through a trial of patience.
FanficRecs Basically unreadable
